Marlo Coast Guard

The Marlo Rescue Club was formed on 25th July 1974.
The foundation committee was,
President - D Law, Vice President - J Ingram and Sec/Tresurer - C Bain.
There were 34 foundation members including the commitee.
Original rescue boats used were owned by members and were 15' and 17' alloy and fibre glass.
In 1980 the club purchased a 19' Haines Hunter from an Abalone diver at Mallacoota for $2.500, this boat was powered by a 175hp Evinrude outboard engine.
It was originally stored in the Fire Station at Marlo and painted orange (official colour for Rescue Craft)
In 1982 the club built its own storage shed of timber frame and metal cladding (5 x 12 metres) at the the Lighthouse Reserve Marlo.
The entire structure was built by the form 11 students of Orbost High School, as part of their work experience program.

In 1990, the Marlo Boat Rescue Club, recieved a new 19' Eden Craft Rescue Boat, powered by two 90hp out board engines.
The Club also purchased a new low four-wheel trailer with an extendible towbar and the towing vehicle was a refurbished land rover.
The Marlo Boat Rescue Club changed it's name to Marlo Ocean Rescue in 2001.
In 2005 Marlo Ocean Rescue merged with the
Australian Volunteer Coast Guard Inc Marlo (VF21).
We currently have 20 members, from truck drivers, fire fighters, retirees, farmers, teachers, plumbers, skippers, hospital workers and more.
We have approached some of our larger organisations in the area for some finacial help, which we received and have now gone from the Red into the Black and our sights are set to raise money towards a new vessel.
Each Easter we have a major raffle, so keep a lookout and buy a ticket to help support the Marlo Coast Guard.
